My art practice has always been figurative - oil paint/crayon/printmaking I do not have any restrictions on what I will visually explore – if I become curious about a technique, a medium or a genre then that is what I will work on.

At the moment I am interest in exploring small landscape painting – I am particularly interested in looking at colour and the colour temperature of light in a northern European country like Ireland

I am also exploring some of the same issues around light in my still life paintings. For these I use chalk pastels on a prepared surface of marble dust and gesso on card.

Chalk pastel is my preferred medium and I use raw pigment to now make my own custom sticks. Still Life also allows me to enjoy the dual challenge of composing in an abstract way and of finding suggested narrative in the placement of these small modest objects.
