Sarah K. Ryan
Medium: oil on board
Dimensions: 25.5" x 25"
Sarah studied animation after her Leaving Cert and went on to work with Fred Wolf Films in Dublin. Originally she joined the team as an assistant sound editor but moved quickly into the layout department as a clean-up artist. It is here she learned a great deal about perspective and detail.
Sarah has held two solo art shows, the first held in Skerries in 2005 and the second in Dublin in 2007, both of which were highly successful. In 2015 she completed a BA (Hons) Degree in Visual Art Practise at IADT.
Sarah’s work is very influenced by the architecture around us, aspects of the 'everyday' around us that we take for granted.
My work is influenced by history, architecture and light. By showing a familiar scene from a different viewpoint, or by asking the viewer to finish the painting themselves, by drawing on their knowledge of a building or place, my paintings reflect what we take for granted.
My approach is evolving all the time and I am pushing myself to lose detail and move towards a more emotional reaction to places lost or hidden behind neon signs.
