Since the first Skerries Soundwaves Festival in 2004, the festival is organised and run on a completely voluntary, non-profit-making basis and over the years has forged links to many other voluntary groups in the town, and with local businesses.
Every year, a range of musical and artistic experiences is offered to the Skerries public – and to the increasing number of visitors who come to our town for the festival. Professional and amateur musicians of all musical backgrounds, street entertainers, artists, puppet theatre players, photographers, poets and many others have been involved over the years. The Festival Street Party, Minecraft, Night-Time Parade and Fireworks have become firm favourites.
In keeping with the festival’s community focus, the Soundwaves Schools Programme sees musicians, artists, authors and dancers visit local primary schools and expose children to different forms of artistic expression.
Skerries Soundwaves is now well established. This would not have been possible without the continued support by The Arts Council and the Fingal County Council Arts Office.
